Method and sources
- Federal Reserve Survey of Consumer Finances 2022Summary extract public microdata, weighted household figures
- ECB Household Finance and Consumption Survey, 2021 waveStatistical tables v4.0 (July 2023), tables A3/A4
The computation
US band medians and means are computed from the Fed SCF 2022 summary-extract microdata (weighted, five implicates pooled) and asserted against the published Fed Bulletin medians on every build. EU figures come from the ECB HFCS 2021-wave statistical tables (net wealth by age of reference person, tables A3 and A4), verified against the source workbook cell by cell.
What these figures do not cover
- Household figures by the age of the household's reference person, not individual wealth.
- Each country is shown in its own survey currency and year (2022 dollars, 2021 euro); the page never ranks countries across currencies.
- Czech and Hungarian figures are reported by the ECB in euro.
- The line joins six measured band medians; between the dots it is drawn for the eye, not measured.
- A band median says where the middle of your age group sits, not your exact rank; for a percentile, the net worth percentile tool is the right instrument.
